With almost into middle of the year 2017, my thoughts took a fleeting detour through some of my past travel experiences.
I’ve made some some truly extraordinary memories from my backpacking trip to Japan. This country has a charm that is seen in it’s culture, architecture and cuisine. Through few of the festivals that I attended, I got to understand what celebrations in Japan are like.
Matsuri, is the name given to the native festivals in the Country. It is unique to every shrine, and is attended by thousands of people – both local and tourists. A matsuri opens a portal to the Cultural personality of Japan, otherwise not seen in daily life. It is usually celebrated throughout the year.
Few of the most Popular Matsuri in Japan are Aoi Matsuri in Kyoto, Tenjin Matsuri in Osaka, Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori. The pictures below are from the Awa Odori Matsuri, a traditional dancing festival held across different prefectures of Japan in August. These festivals are celebrated gloriously by young and old alike.
Such a vibrant and energetic memory! A little research on the upcoming festival, while you plan your trip will be worth it. Do not forget to purchase a Japan Rail Pass, makes your going around much easier.
